Selection of Paints

Everyone from painters to shop keepers seem to recommend Asian paints. I am not sure if these guys are really aware of the health aspects of Lead and other VOC content in paints. I came across an article that mentions ICI Dulux to be the cleanest.

Brand-wise, Berger samples exhibited maximum lead concentration with cumulative average of 51,723.2ppm for various shades across countries. This is followed by Asian Paints with 16,124.7ppm (cumulative mean). ICI Dulux came out to be the cleanest with 65.33ppm mean lead concentration, much below the US’s 90ppm limit; The lowest lead concentration however was found in Asian Paints, P O Red shade from P O Red shade from India with 7.15ppm;

Can anyone share their experience with using Dulux paints?

Hi,
ICI dulux is really a better paint.The color tones are great and the finishing is far better.Also dulux is slightly costlier than Asian.The first lead free paints are nippon.But then there market reach is very less.You can get asian brand in every corner of a street, dulux is available only in selected out lets.

Lead or equivalent heavy metals are used in Paints to give the shining effect.

Leaded Paints are cheaper and hence popular.

Lighter colors will have less percentage of Lead and as the color goes darker, lead percentage is more.


FYI: Even NEROLAC and another brand NIPPON Paints do Lead-free paints in India.

The rates I am getting are cheaper for Dulux when compared to Asian. The rates (for white) are 5000/7200 for Dulux 3 in 1 and velvet touch respectively and 7455 and 6675 for Royal Shine and Royal respectively for 20 liters.

I have been using asian since ages. tried to switch to nerolac for a change.

1. Did not find a right dealer in bangalore.
2. Called up the customer care - they weren't of much use.

with no choice left, i went back to asian. try the "foresite option" in the website. you are allowed to take a snap of your exterior/ interior & send it to them. They will embed the colour of your choice & send you a soft copy by email. they also courier the hard copy....i am still awaiting !!
