UPS,RO and Solar Water Heater

Post by jackalbda »

Below are quotes I got for these items. Could you please suggest if the brands as well as prices are good to go ?

1. Solarizer Plus - 200 litre non pressurized - Rs 31000
2. Kent RO Pearl - Rs 15500 ( Kent has so many options like Pearl, Grand , Pride, Wonder, Super etc ) . I have borewell water and Cauvery will be there in a couple of months time. Not sure which one to go for :-( The agent says, Pearl model has got RO+UF+UV+TDS control !!
3. Sukam Falcon Model 800VA Pure Sinewave UPS with SUkam 100AH Tubular battery. Rs 15000.

Please help me choose brands and price here. Total he quoted 61500.

I forget the prices I paid, but I guess the sum total could add to what you are saying - 61.5K.

If you need referrals, these are the folks I used
1. Solarizer - Raccold from a Manjunath (forget the company name now, they are in Jayanagar), did a decent job - came to site a few times to discuss and once the deal was finalized, he followed up for installation. ph 944 816 2206
2. Suresh Inamdar again I forget name of company, for UPS, solar panels and battery, he was good too, followed up well. And my electrician had made an error in the wiring for solar and so the UPS had issues, he never complained came back several times to follow up. ph 934 267 2624
3. Water softener and filter - Venkatesh, he was good. Brought everything, and I did not hook up the softener for many months after the purchase, but he came by, did all the set up and checked both the filter and softener. ph 990 043 4343

You can call them if you are interested. If you wish you can say I referred you Jani from shettihalli site.

Disclaimer - I am not connected with them in any way nor will I get any commissions for referrals.

My suggestion is to go with Racold solar water heater. Most of the solar water heaters use ss304 for the inner container, while Racold uses SS304L, low carbon steel. this reduces the corrotion at the welding joints.
"http://www.portlandbolt.com/faqs/ss316s ... 316lss304l
Low-carbon stainless steel bolts are used to avoid corrosion problems that are caused by welding, as the lower carbon content reduces the “sensitization effect” (the precipitation of chromium carbides at grain boundaries) caused by the high temperatures involved in welding."

Tubular batteries from the same brand come in 2 years and 3 years warranty. So the price varies depending on whether you go with 2 year warranty ones or 3 year ones.

Depends on the level of backup you need. If you want the whole house backed up with UPS, your electrician will have to provide wiring to he location where you want to setup the backup unit. Also, if you want solar power to some locations, then you need to figure that out before wiring is complete.

Regarding water purifier - you will need a water inlet, a drain and power supply. It can probably be setup above a sink (if you have a power point there).

Water softener, is at the point where the water supply comes into the home. And it's outlet is connected to the home water supply. So if plumbing is already done, you are ok, just need to make sure you have room to set it up and access to the home's water source. I forget if it needs a power point or not though.

@jackalbda,

1. No idea about Solar stuff as I am yet to start construction.
2. Water purifier - After quite a bit of research, I recently bought Kent Grand Plus from Croma. Kent Pearl and Kent Grand plus are both RO+UV+TDS. Please make sure that you buy one with UV. There will be several ads from Pure It, Aquaguard and some other brands which say RO+UF but no UV. I also got an external pre-filter installled as it will clean up most of the dirt from borewell water and helps lengthen the life of the purifier filters.
3. Sukam Falcon Model 800VA Pure Sinewave UPS with SUkam 100AH Tubular battery. Rs 15000 ==> Falcon is a good UPS. Don't know much about Sukam Tubular battery. But can you check if they are giving at least 36 months warranty? Exide gives 4-year warranty on some Tubular batteries. Also based on your size of house and usage check if 100AH backup is good enough for you or you need to go for 150AH. There is no way you can increase the back-up time because you will be stuck with the battery you bought for at least 3-4 years.

My previous home had V-Guard geysers (25L capacity) installed in each room. It was good. There was no problem in 2 years of usage. It is also built with ss304L. My current home has Racold installed (12L capacity) in each room and in our two years of usage one of it malfunctioned and required replacement of thermostat after a year. Also the geyser makes noise when water is heated. My son says his room geyser does not provide enough hot water when compared to our room geyser. So I am not sure about Racold brand. We are the first tenant in both the places. For my new home, I am also looking into AO Smith geyser but has not seen any feedback on that.

Hi Jackalbda, :D

We bought our Racold geyser 27 years back(25 litres). Once I changed the thermostat about 22 years back. Till now there is no problem at all. Racold is a well established brand.

I was talking about solar water heater and not the regular geysers. I have no experience with regular geysers. The point I was making was to ensure the tank is made of SS304L as it reduces the chances of corrosion at the welding joints.
