Yesterday after 2.5 hours of searching for good sand, I could get one lorry of about 405 cft @ 29000/- the sand was very good belkodi cauvery delta sand. It is very hard to find good quality sand now a days for constructuion work.
Over a period of last 5 years or so, there is an increasing amount of m.sand or granite crushed sand used for the construction purposes. As a civil engineer I would recommend using the following sand for different usages.
1. All types of concrete work in construction. - 100% M.Sand - or robo sand - with 3 stage process of filtering, and often tested for its quality of delivered sand at CIVIL AID or any other testing laboratory.
2. For all Size stone masonry foundation works - 100% m.sand.
3. For all wall construciton masonry concrete block work or brick masonry work - 80% of river sand and 20% of M.Sand, preferably sieved.
4. For plastering work external and as well internal - 85% of river sand and 15% of m.sand mandatorily sieved.
5. For flooring base mortar works of about 1.5" thk - 60% rough river sand - kanakapura also o.k and 40% m.sand rough portion.
6. For elevation granite works and tile laying works in bathroom - Tile adhesive ready mix. Grades of the ready mix depending upon kind of cladding or daddoing. Say for example - strong for granite and slightly weak for tiles.
M.Sand is the best alternative to river sand and all the members are benefited without insisting upon river sand for all kinds of works. This is also enviornmentally friendly.
Finally to mention. all crushed stone powder is not m.sand. Proper grading of the stone powder to the requirements of IS is what is necessary and only few people in the market are well equipped to give m.sand thus. One of them which i am using is Robosilicon industries pvt. ltd, located in mysore road.
