Flooring - Granite or Vitrified

I am still confused to go for granite or vitrified. Granite that i liked are bigger gangsaw slabs and are expensive. But the popular option is granite as it is said that it doesn't lose its gloss over a period of time and won't break after laying.

Does vitrified tiles crack and will it be difficult to replace them? Is it good option for going for a large tile in that case? What is the cost of 900mm x 900mm vitrified tile?

Does vitrified lose its gloss over a period of time? Is there tiles that won't lose its gloss over a long time available in the market?

What is the best brand of vitrified?

Please help me choose the best. it would be great if you can guys can discuss advantages and disadvantages of granite and vitrified.

If you can afford, then go for Granite. The cost of the granite is high and also, its laying charges are very very high compared to that of Vetrified.
But, you get a decent vetrified tiles from good brands like Kajaria, etc from around 50/- psft. Now, some new varieties of come where they say nano layer, etc for which the glossy shine would stay for more time.

I have gone for Granite for my leaving areas and common areas, whereas the Vetrified for the bed rooms as more than 80% of the bed rooms would be occupied with the cot and wardrobes.

I have seen that RAK tiles have some good collection of tiles too. The pricing is on a higher side though. (http://www.rakindia.com/Info/larger-than-life.aspx)
Also though I havent started exploring on the vitrified manufacturers of other brands. I have heard that you can get the best rates when you purchase this directly from the company stock godown. If anyone can shed more light on this, it will be helpful.

Granite:
1. They are available in nature
2. You need to measure laying area and buy in 1 lot as you may not get the same colour in next lot
3. 150per Sq gang size-measurement 8*10 - Chances of crack in granite is minimal .
However better to inspect every slab
4. 70-100per SFT-measurement 4*11 or 3*13 etc always lavailable less
the 5feet width and length may vary from 10-13 feet.
As they cost you less you may see more cracks in these slabs .Hence need to be careful while buying.
5. Buy only water cut granite slabs.
6. Laying cost will be more then laying cost of vetrified tiles
7. They are porus in nature ,if any liquied falls on granite it will absorb easily if
you don't clear immediately.Of course you can remove it using acid.However never tried it .
8. During winter granite will become cold and it is not recommanded for any people with bones problem.
9. After laying looks superb if it is gangsize will have glassyfinish and you won't see any gap between slabs

Vetrified Tiles:
1. 40rs-80rs perSFT size will be 2*2.If you go for a higher measurement cost will go up
2. Scratch free nano technology tiles may cost more
3. Tiles will be crack free however guys will break them while laying
4. As the years pass vetrified tiles will loose glassy finish
5. If the person laying not put sand and cement mixture properly
there may be a air gap and if you drop any material on tiles it may break
6. They don't absorb anything if you drop any liquid on tiles ,they are not porus in nature
7. 50-60% less cold compared to granite during winter
8. After laying looks good .However gap between tiles looks ugly and over a period time
if not maintained properly looks even uglier if the tiles are of ivory or white colour not sure about other colours

Thanks for the info sudhu - Can vitrified be polished to get back the glossy finish and to remove the dirt? If yes, can all vitrified tiles can be polished?? One more thing.. what is this semi vitrified tile?

No you cannot polish them . You can lay one more layer above the existing tiles.Also thickness matters gangsaw granite will be 20mm thick and vetrified tile will be 10mm thick.Don't go for semi vetrified tiles . They are more like ceramic tiles that you put for bathrooms .

we havnt reached this stage n im sure i will be in a dilemma to choose between granite n vetrified ...i hope this disscussion will help me in the future

what will be rough cost for medium level vitrified & granite cost including laying cost & others.
I'm also in dilemma whether to go with granite at least for living/dinning hall.

In normal cost are like this:
Sadranahalli: Type A where they wont by any line texture - 65-75/-
Type B

Seera: 75-80/-
rest all starts from 100+
A good decent one will cost close to 125/+ only to have it in dining and living
if any plan for getting bigger size slab for definitely it goes above Rs 150/-

Pros:
less joints
Polish last longer

Cons:
Becomes too cold in winter
Elderly person feels difficult
once demaged, getting ready is difficult. in case od vertified will be easy if you have those tiles
most are dark shaded
Choice are very limited
Strains due to liquid is difficult to get rid.

Vertified:
Start from 40/-
Kajaria, Rak and Nitco are recommended Brands where they start from 50/-
Can get good one for 60/+

Pros:
easy to clean
easy to lay
easy to maintain
liquid wont get into it
Cold free compared to granite

Cons:
Chance of break are more
Laying person should be more professional
