Hi,
Can anyone educate me on the pros and cons of going for cement frames with wooden doors for my interiors.( for all the kitchen and wardrobes). Do we get any moisture inside the cabinets because of this. I am seeing some cost advantage , but not sure about the quality and side effects of this. My builder is quoting around Rs600/- on an average for the complete thing.Doors would be MDF with waterproof for the kitchen and normal for the wardrobes. Is that reasonable or too high?
Appreciate the feedback on this.
Thanks and Regards,
Anil.

It will be advantages. Go for all exterior windows and doors and with cement frame. Interior go with frame less shutters which will be much cheaperr.

Hi arkolli
You can use cement slabs for wardrobe and kitchen interiors and then make wodden shutters for the same.these slabs are known as Andhra slabs .they cast the rcc slab in 20mm thk max.
The only problem I this is that you cannot have a modular look kitchen and wardrobe.its the very old style of using framing and fixing shutters with "l" hinges.
There wouldn't be any moisture problem in rcc slabs.

Thanks Praveen for the reply. Is there any cost advantage in this. They are quoting Rs600/- psqft. And the doors for that would be MDF.
Thanks,
Anil.

Why don't you check the Sintex plastic kitchen cabinets ? They are cheaper and I believe around Rs 500 per sft and they looks good too. I feel 600 psft for the Andhra slabs and MDF is not so cheaper. We can get the modular kitchen with marine plywood for about 850 psft
Re: cement frames and wooden doors for the kitchen and wardr
Why cannot we got with granite (80 Rs slabs) which would be cheaper with doors plywood or sintex ?. I am not sure how much plywood cost but sintext is int ehr range of 280 Rs per Sqft ?

Hi
I have booked a flat. In the current rented flat where I am staying the over head storage's are made with concrete slab and then covered by plywood board doors.
When I enquired with my builder, he suggested to get it done with complete woodwork instead of concrete slab and then wooden doors. The reason he has given is that it is as per the interior designers recommendation with respect to fit and finish.
Couple of questions I require your help is
1. Which one will be cheaper
2. Which one is preferred and why
3. If I go with complete wooden cabinets (as recommended by the builder) will it be strong enough to withstand all the things which are loaded . Varying from heavy suit cases to books to vessels to heavy weight un-utilized appliances (may be )
