WORLD WATER DAY 2024

Every year, 22nd March is observed as World Water Day.

The theme for this year’s World Water Day is “Water for Peace”. Be the change you want to see in the world. You can make changing the way you use, consume and manage water in your lives.
Water touches the life of each and every human being.

Like earlier years, to mark the occasion of World Water Day 2024 and as my small contribution in creating awareness on harvesting rooftop rainwater for storage and direct use and to showcase a demo about my Effective Rainwater Harvesting Filters and also the Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting & Storage Integrated Management System being adopted by me, I plan to hold a session on Sunday the 17th March 2024 at 11 am at my house. Those interested in participating may send their request at the earliest. It will be purely on a First Come First Served basis. The number of participants is limited to 5 only. SOLAR WATER HEATER AND USE OF RAINWATER:

I have been using ETC (Evacuated Tube Collector, i.e. using glass tubes) solar water heater for the last TEN YEARS. I am using only rainwater for all my requirements round the year and hence for the solar water heater also. I have never had an occasion to service (get the tubes cleaned) as there is neither calcium residue nor dust accumulation inside the tubes. Since there was no need to service / clean the tubes by removing the tubes hence no remote possibility of leakage. The tubes are sufficiently strong and unless mishandled, there is extremely remote chance of breakage.

If at all, the only maintenance that might be needed is to spray some water for removing any dust accumulated on the tubes to increase heating efficiency. Most of the times, rain take care of the cleaning.

In my opinion, the ETC tubes are much more efficient than the FPC (Flat Panel Collector) solar water heaters. Further, they are not immune to calcium residue, etc., and hence do require periodic servicing.

Please remember to keep the ETC tubes covered with opaque material in case the water tank is empty / partially full, otherwise water, if any, inside the tank might become super-heated and in case tank is empty, there is a possibility of the tubes cracking / breaking.

Also if in summer, hot water is not drawn from the solar water heater, it is better to keep the tubes covered with opaque material, otherwise there could be substantial loss of water due to continuous steam formation.
