@sk1976

We recently purchased wood (1 month back) for our house under construction. Our engineer recommended Shivashakti saw mill on Mysore road near Kengeri. We primarily purchased teak wood (logs) and gum-saal (cut pieces).

Our experience has been quite good. As we did not have much expertise in selecting teak wood logs, we relied on the saw mill owners to recommend the wood. They helped us pick good logs and also we felt the pricing was reasonable.

I am also in the process of buying wood. I am planning to use a combination of white sal, Honne and Teak.

White sal for all Window and internal door frames
Honne for all wondow and internal door shutters.
Teak for main door frame and shutters.

Could you please share me the mill from where you procured the wood.? . COuld you share your experience and what are the things one should look for while buying the wood?. Thank you.

Honne is around 1850 - 1875. Yes you bought it on the higher side. If the teak is indeed what you are quoting, it is a steal of the month !!

I bought Burma Teak @ 2600 last year around this time and Hunsur Teak @2200 per CFT. Burma Teak had 10% wastage and Hunsur Teak had 30% wastage when Cut into planks of required sizes. The prices have gone up 23% in an year.

I guess since I bargained for the prices on Burma teak wood, the guy reduced the cost a bit and reduced it to Rs.3050 per cft, and increased the price of Honne to Rs.1950.
Overall I guess that is how these timber merchants work. (for their gains).
Since I had a gone to that shop through a reference of my friend, he told me he will provide A grade quality wood and I am satisfied with the quality of wood delivered.
