Some interesting info on FE500 vs FE415 steel
http://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/in ... 731AAwXQI7
Fe415 is a steel of low carbon content and high manganese that imparts a combination of high ductility and high strength to the Re-Bars
Carbon % max = 0.30
This makes the bars easy to bend without breaking and to shape for tight curves in bridge curbs etc.
Fe500 isn't near as ductile and the carbon is higher. The extra carbon makes the steel quite a bit tougher than the FE415 and has a higher tensile strength than the Fe415. This makes the steel more economical because you can use less of it for a designated load. The tradeoff is it isn't near as flexible and has more "springiness" to it so it harder for ironworkers to shape it.
You can bend a 1/2" rebar of FE415 into a perfect U shape with zero radius and it won't break. You can't do that with FE500. The FE415 besides being more ductile is also more weldable. The FE415 excels in tight curved concrete or steel reinforcements. The FE500 excels in linear spans and cost per tensile pound

@sk1976 thanks for very useful info
the the steel dealer said same thing 500 is stronger n ecomonical n it consumes less rods compare to 415 that has to be designed by structural engineer n 500 is done by pure iron ore n 415 is done by re rolled n even that is not bad for construction coz most of the people just buy local isi brands only i was really got confused coz wanted to go for good brands n good materials n even it might cost more for me ....however engineer had already designed for 415 i didnt know abt grades n all ..really got confused n later few facts help me to decide to go for 415 n good steel brand ie the house we r living is 30 yrs old n it is build on foundation(paya) g+1 floor n even 2day with good pain the house looks brand new house n most of the people build house on payafoundation g+2 floors n no pillars n since we r goin for g+3 floors so pillar n any steel brand is ok to build the house n it will be stronger compare to just foundation n without pillars n dad also told me that when he was constructing there was no brands or isi mark on steel rods just go to steel dealer buy the required steel only now days we see brand name n isi mark on steel roads before there wasnt any...so finally i decided to go for fe415 know isi brands

Re: Construction material prices
Just a small correction, maybe I am mistaken. But paya (foundation) without pillars does not necessarily mean it is less strong. Pillar construction is opted these days to have flexibility in the walls (so you don't have to do wall on wall for upper floors). Most houses older than 20 years probably had only paya (foundation) and the strength of that depends on how deep and how wide the paya walls were. My father also built his house 45 years back and his house can take ground + 2, even though at the time he only planned for G+1 (because he decided to go 1 foot deeper for his foundation.maheshvivid2003 wrote:@sk1976 thanks for very useful info

ISI mark wasn't checked in older days. I guess the level of trust was higher then. Spurious brands, forgeries and cheating at such levels were less frequent. So be careful to check brands (even if the grades you decided were different than your original plan).

Re: Construction material prices
g+2 floors will be stronger on paya foundation however if we hav to go for more floors then pillar is neccessary as far as my knowledge concerned
i agree with u the level of trust and the quality of the material.... ther is lot of difference from then n now things have changed ...even he was sharin his exp ..that there is lot of difference in working style and attitude of people workers now ...they want money thats all n wont leave a single penny but the work they deliver is just 60% to 70% ..had very bad exp with centring work ..lot of hardwork was ther at that time n dedicated to deliver good work and he isnt much happy with the work on our new house.....n the new trend is all labours ask money for tea coffee not less than 50rs infact they demand people include who deliver materials like steel, cement, river sand, jelly ,tractor guy for earth evacuation and also all labour guys once didnt give n ther attitude was very diff n didnt do wat i was telling them ..almost spent 1500rs for tea capee till now n work done is plinth beam n sump.

Thats true mahesh. Nowdays workmanship & Quality is degrading at civil construction. Sometimes I have noticed labour mixes cement & then go to lunch then they will come after 1 to 2 hours. Already cement gets set at that time, what is use of this cement mixture for construction.

Re: Construction material prices
I think the labours have "Dont care a Damn" attitude. I have also seen the labour mixes cement and goes for lunch behaviour. When I tell them not to do this, they shrug if off and say "Dont worry, nothing happens, we will mix it again and use it". Maybe there must be a training camp for labours if they want to get into construction field. (Hopefully someday in 2020)
