Can some one share their idea of laying the wood plank flooring in the house ?
What would be the cost of flooring per square feet for wood planks ? One contractor quotes Rs 125/Sq.Ft, is that a fair value ?
What would be the maintenace requirement, if we have to go for this flooring ?
Whats the durability of this one ?
I feel to inclined towards wood plank for the flooring of my house, against the vitrified tiles.
Thanks,
Babu

Hi babu,
Wooden flooring is the most maintenance required flooring, there are various kind of wooden flooring like
laminated, engineered, natural .
For residential you can go for laminated wood flooring.There should be proper planning for using wooden flooring during construction of home.
The major problem with wooden floor is scratches that cannot be avoided unless you take utmost care of flooring.wooden flooring life span is not more than 10 years.you should clean the wooden floor immediately in case of spillage like coffee etc.....

Thanks Praveen for providing the details.
If the required maintenance is going to be more for wood planks and the life span is around 10 years then I would prefer to go with tiles.
Thanks,
Babu

Has things changed with wood flooring since the last post ? Are there modern wood floor choices that require lesser maintenance (esp if you have kids aged 7 & 3
)

Hi ,
Its so interesting to see the members digging in to the oldest posts after 4 years.
Yes there are major developments in wooden flooring in the current market.
There are higher grade wooden floorings available now in brands like PERGO. Most of the available wooden flooring are scratch and water resistance (not proof)
There are many up gradations and superior quality finishing materials available in the market in the last 4 years "including my mail id from yahooo to gmail
"

HI ,
Dont know back in bangalore,
but here in calgary one of my friend just finished wooden flooring .
The wood( i can say tiles) of laminated flooring type with maple colour , one box 20.93 sqft/ box cost around 60CAD(1CAd=55INR=3300inr) .
The total cost came to him around 6000CAD(3.5laks INR,) for around 1650sq.ft(including staicase)
I saw laying these tiles(wooden) is very easy, the only difficult part is laying on face of staircase , other than that its very easy.
I tried myself for one room.
The looks is beautiful.
The negative part is -- u need to clean it immediately .

@PPG
Thanks for the details. The problem in India is finding right material worth its price. On SP Road there are 100s of shops selling anything at any price. Brands can just take you for a ride - esp if its something aesthetically good. I have a budget of 200-240/sft for this. So looking around

Hi Girishd,
I am also looking at the wooden flooring option and have spoken to a few dealers. The engineered wood flooring starts from upwards of Rs350 psft. I also came across a dealer call Euro Flooring I think who has a showroom in Mysore road. They supply laminated wooden flooring at around Rs, 250 per sft including installation. This is imported from a company called Kaindl, Austria and he was vouching for the superior quality and a warranty of 25 years. I havent yet had a look but this could be an option since it is also fitting into my budget.
