Can anyone tell me the difference between BWR (Water resistant) and BWP(Water Proof) plywood? Looks like BWP is costlier than BWR, but my interior guy suggests to have BWR as it will be of not much diff.
Any suggestion?

Hi,
BWR is basically boiling water resistant that can be used for kitchen, bathroom and other wet areas only when you except that there wouldn't be direct longtime contact of water and ply.It is moisture resistant .
BWP is basically a boiling water proof that can be used in high wet zones where you expect that ply wood get wet some times like bathroom wash basin bottom ,external shoe rack etc..
There is a clear difference between both .Some times we over do in the name of quality .You should always strike a balance between quality and cost .Certain non branded ply are not really BWR or BWP .They just dip the ply in green colored anti termite chemical to give it appearance. When you cut the ply you can make the difference between a really treated BWR /BWP vs colored .

Agree with Praveen. Many people use BWR plywood for all interiors including wardrobes, etc., whereas it's not really necessary. I have used BWR only for kitchen cabinet and that too the bottom portion, where the chance of contact with water is more. I have used MR (a.k.a. Commercial) for kitchen loft and rest of interiors such as wardrobes, etc.
