Difference between Block Board and Plywood

I am naive in wooden furniture and do not have knowledge on the different types of wood. Hence, I request the forum members to educate me on my doubts. What I know is that Particle Boards, MDF, HDF etc are made of wooden powder compressed at high pressure with glue. If the screws/hinges come of, they cannot be put back easily. I also know that plywood does not have this problem. Now there is another type of wood called Block Board, which I see in some furniture websites, where I looked for some designs. My doubt is, is block board a type of plywood? What about the hinges problem that is found in MDF or particle boards ? What are the differences between block board and plywood in terms of cost, durability, being weather proof, termite/fungus/borer resistance, load withstanding capacity etc. Is block board a good option for wardrobes ? Please let me know.

Hi,
Block board and ply are same in terms of quality. But ply is not recommended for shutters since it bend very easily. The cost difference is very marginal of 1-3 /- per sft depending up on brand.Ply and block will not have any hinges problem. If you buy in a good brand you shouldn't be facing borer problem at least for 10 years.
