Hi Everyone,
Has anyone heard of Athungadi Tiles being manufactured in Bangalore? These are hand made cement tiles with a glass finish of red-oxide. The finished product is spectacular and very cost effective. These tiles are in vogue in Chettinad and Athungadi, but I haven't been able to find any makers in Bangalore yet. Could someone please let me know if you know of any place where it's being made or any good alternative for it?
Thanks!

Hi pkalappa,
did you had a chance to find Athungadi Tiles or similar tiles dealers in Bangalore? I am also trying to find out cost effective alternative to granite/vitrified.

Thanks all. Rajuraikar, I did find a dealer who deals with Athungadi and other flooring options. Because the craftsmen are from Chettinad, the cost-effectiveness is gone. Also, the tile-layers are specialized in the craft and hence the cost is higher in that area as well. Overall, the cost comes upto vitrieied tile rates!

Hi
We are looking for options for our Portico Flooring. Is this can be used? Is it sturdy to use in the Portico floor?
What will be the Sq. Ft cost?

Re: Athungadi Tiles
Attangudi tile prices are Rs 42-45 per tile (Tiles are -10x10inch) + Transportation cost. These tiles are sensitive compared to Vitirified/granite they will get scraches which will be permanent. Scraches might happen if you drag furnitures over the tiles.
Re: Athungadi Tiles
Hi, there is one dealer who even manafactures Athangudi tiles in his premises in Nayandahalli, Pantrapalya Mysore road.
You can contact the owner Mahesh on 9844060203.
I had been to his factory and saw the tile manafacturing first hand. Though the tiles themselves look amazing and have a variety of colors and designs, I was not very impressed by the "hand made" manafacturing process. The regular vitrified and ceramic tiles are factory made and hard pressed but Athangudi tiles were manafactured using a mixture of cement and sand, put into a mould and a design mould kept on it and colours poured into the mould. This tile is left for curing for abt 45 days is what I heard.
Even my engineer expressed doubts on the hardness and scratch proof properties. With a heavy heart I had to go to the regular vitrified and granite options.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
