Post by rainbow_flat »

I am in search of decorative lights both for the walls and ceiling.. Looking for some new and modern designs as most of the light shops have similar designs.
Planning to visit BVK Iyengar road this weekend and check out.. Please can I get some advice about good/reasonable ships in BVK Iyengar road for buying decorative lights..

Good light shops in Bangalore..

Adithya Lamps, Kapoor Lamps, Chandra Lamps, Prism Lights, Ministry of Lights, Dreamlights, Purple Turtle (unique), ALC lighting (expensive but worth it), Passolite(good for large scale), LIght and Living... and Light Art (good stuff)

PS : If you cant find what you are looking for in the above mentioned shops, then you should head to Mumbai..!

I bought all of my deco lamps from Philite (BVK Iyengar st) Philips India primarily for warranty and some assurance about quality. I wanted to avoid buying China goods. Reasonable priced too. (I was told prices went up by 10% or so recently)

JP Lights also has a good collection

Hi guys
While buying decorative lights few points to keep in mind
1.There should be clear differentiation between decorative lights and main lights
2.Main lights cannot be replaced by decorative or task or show lights
3.You need to divide the lights selection in to 3 types
a.Main lights - tube lights(general),drop lights with cfl, concealed diffuse lights with cfl or led
b.ambiance lights - Color lights, rope lights, strip lights, wall washers, picture lights etc...
c.Task lights - Reading lights, spot lights, wardrobe lights etc..

Lighting design should be well thought while floor planning stage it self, adding on light to every wall is never a lighting design or adding unwanted ceiling lights with no purpose.
Many cases people buy all kind of lights and end up living under tube light for 95% of life time. You invest so much on lights that are never used like halogen spot lights (equal to room heaters:) )
Droping a light from ceiling will give uniform brightness against typical tube lights ,so two tubes of 60 watt each is equal to 2 cfl of 24 or 26 watt hanging type.
Wall lights can never be a main light if you are looking for good interiors.Lighting is the critical element to elevate your interiors to the next level.
