Its coming in solid 18mm thickness sheets and can be used just like ply. The shutters are then coater with plastic primer just like how we pain bumpers of a car.
Once primer is done, we paint in any colour even metallic and then PU for the final coat.
Its 100% water proof.
And lots of colour combinations.
Other things are it dosent have too many fixing using any kind of adhesive (laminate / edge binding which an peel of in some time).
Scratches can also be dealt with just taking that one piece to a paint shop.
This is now getting quiet popular in kerala. Not sure if any body does this kind of work in Bangalore.
Please share the details if you come across.
Yes I am using this for my new home, its called WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) 30% wood, 70% plastic will be mixed , glued and heat rolled to form the sheet. Its anti-insect as well as waterproof sheet, its strong too. The sheet that I am using is from the brand e-wood, costs around 130/sft for 16mm @ Hyderabad. We can paint the sheet and can add any color to it (includes natural wood color using the sheet scraping).

Here is what my architect is suggesting for the kitchen cabinets and counter:
1. We decide on our pull out sizes and layout upfront
2. We will then create the partitions for these pullouts by placing vertical granite members (20 mm, these could be of cheap quality as it is not visible)
3. The kitchen slab will be placed on top of this (two 20 mm slabs, the inner one could be of cheap quality as it is not visible)
4. The pullout drawers with sliders are fitted to the granite verticals.
5. Only the front cover of the pull outs is made of wood.
6. The overhead cabinets are made of wood.

Apparently this is the normal thing done in Bombay due to fear of wood getting rotten due to moisture. I felt this is a good idea, and also cheaper than most ready made modular kitchens with better quality and hence am planning to go with this.

Let me know if anyone thinks there are issues with this.
