Dear Sir,
I am getting one more additional water storage sump tank constructed in the portico area for storing about 7500 ltrs of water. I am using existing sump (3000 ltrs) motor of 1/2 hp to pump water.
I intend to replace the 1/2 HP Suguna pump motor with 1 hp motor and use the same for pumping water from both tanks but one at a time. I wanted to know whether the motor can pump water from the addln tank if the suction pipe length is 40 ft. The existing pump is nearer to existing tank(suction 10 ft). What is the max pipe length a motor supports for good suction nad discharge ? Pl clarify thro return e mail mnathks@gmail.com
Thanks

Re: suction pipe length for pumping water
Hi,
Suction of 40' is not possible in any hp motor. In general suction power is limited to 20' only.In this case it is recommended to go for submersible pump separate for the new tank.

Re: suction pipe length for pumping water
i enquired abou this today at SP road and Kavitha enterprises told it is not problem if it is even 25 feet or more are they are doing it for agricultural purpose. Horizonal distance doesn;t count ,as vertical height if only considered ,and asked to go for Stainless steel mono block 1 HP motor which body will be bigger than normal motor seen in our houses with big suction nozzle (normally seen as agricultural sites) which will serve the purpose.......not the aluminum one which is smaller and less efficient. When i enquired Suguna dealers they mentioned it is not possible and asked to go for submerssible motor.
I am still at dilemma which is right as texamo dealers say it will work 200% but suguna dealers mentions it won;t work. Which is right? . Please do help if anybody has same issue.
I have checked texamo site ,and there they mentioned pumps with head range from 6m to 40m . So with that i believe we can keep the monoblock pumps away from the sump more than 20ft....

Anybody have working condition 1/2 (0.5) HP motor for sump use?. I need for temporary use during construction phase.

Hi sam_m400
I am in the same situation as you are. My pump is about 30' away from the sump. I was told by my plumber that 1/2hp motor will not work but 1hp will work fine. I might be buying Crompton Greaves...
