Dear members,

There is a dampness in our 10 months old building. Upon scrutiny from the experts like deficit team and few others, we got to know that the scaffolding which was done for plastering the exterior walls were not packed properly which was causing the water seepage.

All the experts gave us the solution to scrape the affected area and put waterproofing chemical then re plaster n paint.

However, this problem has occurred in only one place now. I wanted to know if there is any quick fix to this problem which can last for at least one or 2 years. Meanwhile, other seeping issues will also come forward and once for all we call resolve all the problems.

Please pour in ur views on the same.

Solution is exactly same as they told however you can buy better materials and get any local painter to do it for you for much cheaper.
I had a problem of leakage from joint in RCC tank and same suggestion was given by a fellow member regalix
I managed to stop leak from 14K liter RCC sump tank by this method so will surely work for the problem you stated. Since it is a
water tank I used 3 coats but I think for your problem recommended 2 coat should work.

You can either choose BASF Master-seal 551 or FOSROC Brushbond RFX and do 2 coats in perpendicular direction
that is if first coat is applied with horizontal direction then after 6 hours second should be applied with vertical brushstrokes.
BASF Masterseal 551 is for 2065/- ( 15 Kg powder + 5 liter liquid) and extremely good. With one pack you will get approx 135 sq feet coverage.
I have used both fosroc and BASF products in different areas ( Basement walls and tank) and found them to be good.

For BASF products you can purchase from Positive waterproofing Marthahalli , They are located near to Yamaha Showroom on Service road near to Kalamandir. Fosroc has many dealers one which I purchased from is Chrianth agencies in Koramangala ( near madiwala)

Thanks for the reply.

So, in the method mentioned by u, there is no need to remove the existing plastering and then after applying the chemical , and again replaster is it?

I understand that on the existing surface itself the painter can apply the chemical told by u and only repaint that particular area?

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Surface needs to be scrapped of existing paint and roughened up. If suppose a crack is visible painter can open it with the scrapping blade just like what painters do for air cracks while applying putty. Here the solution will last till the waterproof layer
lasts. The applied chemical looks and feels like dried cement slurry so I feel it should last really long if there is no paint layer
and you can applying it directly on plaster.

Basically chipping of plaster, painting the waterproof chemical and then re-plaster is recommended to protect the water proof layer and thus provide permanent lifelong solution.

In my view scaffolding hole will not be more than 6 inch by 6 inch so in case you get some local mason you can get the chipping of plaster and re-plastering also in almost same cost as painter doing the job. Even if you have multiple holes it is just couple of hours job.
