I used Weinerberger hollow block for my house and am living in one since the last 5 years. I have plastered the wall on the inside and painted the blocks on the outside. I feel it keeps the house cool as many of my guests mention that our house is cooler than theirs. Regarding the pros and cons, this has been discussed earlier. You can search for porotherm and you will find the earlier discussions.

What is the difference between using hollow clay bricks and hollow cement blocks . any technical and cost advantages. Little confused over the making decision. My architect recommends clay hollow bricks an . My engineer recommends hollow cement blocks. Kindly provide your valuable inputs.

Hi Yogesh,

Clay Hollow bricks is nothing but POROTHERM bricks only, this will cost around 50-60 Per brick (16x4x8 or 16x6x8, 16x8x8 size).
Weinberger brand is one of the most used one. But it needs special care during construction (Weinberger dealer will arrange for that)

The main advantage of this bricks is they are cooler, light weight and cement plastering is not needed - These can be used for Wall construction as well as for Roof slab. The cost of construction is little high with respect to Bricks.
You can consider for combination of Clay bricks for most portion and Clay hollow bricks for elevation purpose and Master bedrooms.

Clay Cement bricks are same concept as Clay hollow bricks, cost is low compared to Clay hollow bricks and time taken for construction is less.

If you going for Hollow bricks then it is better to Consider Clay Hollow Bricks only as your Architect recommends.

Could you mention the Site Size and upload the plan if possible, based on that inputs can be given.

Can you give me a cost of weinerberger hollow block cost and numbers for your whole home and the size of the project.

I constructed my house in 2011. I paid Rs 32 per 8 inch block with delivery at Mysore. The prices have nearly doubled now. I do not remember the total cost of bricks I spent for my house.
