Need some help from members -

I recently finished the house construction and moved in. I had used Jaisalmer Yellow marble in the living room, but I am facing the issues of marble cracking and chipping, looks like the quality of marble I got was not upto the mark.

I am thinking of laying Vitrified tiles above this marble. I heard from someone that these days one can lay vitrified tiles using some kind of Glue.

Pls share any details that you may have and any tile layer who is expert in this.

Thanks

Sudarshan

you may not be the only one facing this problem , lot of times people dislike their flooring in flats , they go in for flooring of their choice over the existing one. thin set tile adhesives are widely available.
(1) Tile adhesives come in as 2 types , one is Polymer modified cement based . These types may not be suitable for smooth surface like marble. you need ask for epoxy based, these tile adhesives will be expensive, you can try myklaticrete or weber (its widely distributed), check their 2 component adhesive for tiles. Call them and mention 2 component tile adhesive, they will suggest the exact product ,pricing and coverage. Other brands sika , fosroc etc.
(2) Since you to go the thin set way, May I suggest to buy the tile of highest quality , with lesser surface imperfections \ dimension variations. Allow gap for grouting (2 to 3 mm) , ie to be grouted later. this way tiles will last long .
(3) Since it is living room ,Have you considered carpet tile or wood flooring instead of tiles.
(4) No additional skill is required , the adhesive is applied to both surfaces using a comb trowel, tile adhesive needs a mechanical mixer. Any regular tile layer should do it ,it may be his first time however it is not difficult to adapt and learn quickly.

It would be ideal if sun shares images of the problem with the stone. All I know is yellow Jaisalmer marble is not marble at all , it is in the early stages of formation of marble \ metamorphosis. Basically it is yellow limestone , which is sedimentary , and has higher tendency of fracture, Traded as "marble".

Hi,

We had a similar problem with my dad's apartment and went with Ramco TileFix to stick tiles over the old marble.

There are various types of TileFix (T2, T3, ....) depending on the base item (marble, granite, etc) and the top new item (vitrified, ceramic, etc).

You can speak with Murugesha at Ramco 09900016138 about this.
