Electrical wire - Duplicate vs original

I need to purchase wire for my house. Decided to go for finolex but I heard that market is full of duplicates. I contacted couple of shops in chikpete and all of them say that we are channel partners and distributors and sell only original stuff. The local shop in electronic city is assuring original because he is buying from finolex distributor, but the total cost is more by Rs.4000/-
Does anyone know how to distinguish original vs duplicate finolex wire? Please suggest a good shop in chikpete that sell original finolex cables and legrand switches.

Hello SImran,

You can try out Anjaneya electronics in chikpete. For finolex make sure that the wire can be easily circled and is not very thick. Why don't you try Indo kabb wire. I have used it for my certain wiring in my house and is very good. If you are keen on finolex then contact the company toll free number and ask for distributors number. The distributor can get you good stuff at discounted price

Hi ,simran
There are certain checks to know original and duplicate wires in the market
1. To know what is original you need to look at original brand sample from any authorized distributors first ( unless you see orginal its impossible to find duplicate)
2.There will be brand imprint at every one meter on all the wires, print is smudge free and clear to read
3.The copper strands are very organised in a circular mostly ,duplicate strands are unorganized and are loosely packed
4.Carton box top prints are clean and clear with hologram in some brands
5.Wire lengths width are calibrated and width can be checked with vernier caliper
6.Wire colors are bright and thick when compared with original

I bought finolex wire yesterday from bharati electric corporation chikpete. I tried in couple of shops like anjaneya electricals, dandapani electricals and sree hanuman. I found bharathi and sree hanuman to be good. Price for wire was best in anjaneya but when asked about duplicate they were not giving a proper answer. Also they quote very less for switches but for sockets it was too high. Ie 48rs for switch and 128rs for 16a socket. All other shops it is 58-60 for legrand arteor switch and 96-98 rs for 16a sockets.

Bharathi guy was quite reasonable and showed me how to make out original vs duplicate and even accepted cheque payment from me

These days finolex 90 meter box comes with a scratch and see code . Take that code and send an sms to finolex. You will get a reply stating whether the box is genuine.

This code is available only in the 90 meter box and not in the 270 meter packet. We need to check the weight of the wire to make out genuine from duplicate. Genuine ones are heavy because of more copper and duplicate ones are lighter by a kg at least.

Also insist on writing finolex wire in the bill. We can sue the shop if the wire is not genuine. Duplicate guys write just electric wire.
