How do you clean algae from a long plastic pipe ?

I have a long (30 mts) half-inch plastic pipe which was used
during construction. Pipe is in good condition except that there
is some green stuff (I think it is algae) inside through out the pipe.
Water flows fine, no real blockage.
I am wondering how to clean it ...hardware shopkeeper told
me one can use caustic soda for this. So I tied the two ends of
the pipe about one meter above the ground and poured one
kg of caustic soda along with water into the pipe. Left it
for few hours and then emptied the pipe. No real improvement
except that at the two ends and at some points in the pipe
there is some removal. Then I tried Drainex, same results.
Any other ideas ?
