Hello,
I have bought Neem wood for door vascals and window frames yesterday. Teak for main door and pooja room.
My question is -
1. Can Neem be polished?
2. If neem is used, is it like we must paint it and no polish?
3. Can I used flush doors with veeners? or Formica ones with Neem vascals? Will Vascal with paint and door with Veeneer outstand? I am wondering how these flush doors are usually clubbed with the Vascals to match. Please comment and help.

The timber shop person let know that there is something like "spray polish" which can be used to polish Neem also.
Has someone tried polishing Neem? Please suggest.

Thanks,

1) Yes it can be polished. Infact any wood can be polished. it just consumes more sealer and needs more labour for sanding in between coats. Keep in mind Polishing is a very expensive process , it can easily approach the cost of frame. People go for other cheaper woods other than neem if they want to keep their polishing costs and wood costs down . Typically it does not work out for painters , hence they tell stories that it cannot take polish. You can check this post for further details http://www.mybdasites.com/viewtopic.php ... 978#p33436
2) Wood has texture, grains and colors , why cover it with opaque paint. The beauty of wood shows up with clear coats. People chose paint earlier since it was durable , not today, chemistry has advanced very much. With Nano engineered additives you have durable polishes better than paint.
3) Flush doors with Veneers is fine, Vascals and Doors , window frames and shutters of dissimilar wood and color and texture looks great, Majority of people are not adventurous and unwilling to experiment . Also you can stain and polish them to bring up to same color. Keep in mind Flush door with Veneer has a uniform surface . May I suggest Veneer Molded Panel Door. This one looks like your main door.( You can check out ready doors with Nikki and Kalpataru )

All modern polishes and paints has a spray recommendation in their manufacturer data sheets, there is more waste age of material in spraying with conventional compressor, since most painters operate under material contracts , painters float false idea that applying polish by cloth will render a good finish , if it was true manufacturer would have realized and suggested too. People easily fall for this.
Check out the paint websites (Akzo Nobel\Dulux, Asian , Berger ,MRF , Sheenlac etc), you will find Melamine , PU Interior ,PU Interior, Polyester Coat as major classes of wood finishes(in the ascending order of cost) . Sanding sealers are available to aid quicker sanding of fibrous wood like Neem.

Thanks Nivas for sharing your knowledge here on many topics.

We have used australian Honne vaskals and window frames and applied wood primer (white color) before fixing them to walls to protect them from water during curing. We had thought of painting the vaskals and frames with white color but after reading your post I too feel its better to polish them.

My doubt is whether it is possible to remove the white primer and do wood polish?

thanks,

Before any polishing ,wood surface will be scraped , automatically it will be taken care, even if it was painted.

Hi folks,

Sorry for reinvoking this thread. I have been to Madhurgiri this weekend and met one Carpenter, he can do wooden frame + door for 9000/- (800 per CFT) and local teak (1800 per CFT).
I have the sample with me, how to test or get it tested if its worth going ?
