I have a old well in my site, which has got polluted with drainage water from adjoining BBMP storm water drain and hence not been used for many years now. I want to close this well now, as I am planning to reconstruct the house. Has anyone here done this, if so can you suggest the process? Also can someone suggest any contacts who are good at doing this?

you can close the well good soil with out removing the stones of the well, and dont construct any structure on the well as it settles in future, so do take civil and stractural engg. advice.

Be clear, whether its a storm water drainage or a regular sewage drain. if the adjoining one is a storm water drainage,
its not supposed to pollute your well as the water flow in that drainage will be seasonal and not continuous. If its a sewage
water, then definitely it pollute the adjoining water sources. You can look for constructing a wall(with proper waterproofing)
between the drainage and the open well to check any inflow.
Water in the Open well always need to be used at regular intervals. if the open well is not used for continuously for many months
or years, the water quality will go down due to falling dust, leaves, mud ....etc. If you clear the existing water using a high powered
motor and do one level of cleaning at the bottom with the help of experts, you can retain/restore a very good source of water. This is
the practical experience of one of my relative at Dharwad and now he is getting water through out the year, even though the corporation water
is not consistent.
I suggest to go for rejuvenating the well instead of closing so that, use the same well for the Rainwater Harvesting and also as a
standby reliable water source.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. The well has been around and polluted for a long time, even before I bought this house 7years back. The owner who owned the house previously had told it had drainage water seeped in and they had tried cleaning it once but it again got polluted. So it has not been used for many years now. I am also thinking the house structure has began getting impacted by the well. So I believe closing it would be the best option.
