Hi All, I need urgent help from anyone who can provide guidance. My house has been getting constructed from the past 1 year using CLAY BLOCKS(Load bearing). All the walls are load bearing and we have observed many of the clayblocks "FURRING" (this is what my engineer calls it!!!). This means in some of the bricks , the exposed part is getting powdered(one layer). As these are load bearing bricks I am getting worried. The clayblocks guy is stating that its no issues, some of the blocks will not be burnt properly in some areas and this happens sometimes, nothing to worry about. They will scrap that area, apply paint and cover it up. I told them my issue is not superficial, how about the strength of the clay blocks as it is Load bearing? Will it weaken because of this? ANYONE, ANYONE who has faced this issue or know anyone who can evaluate this issue or any contacts, please do let me know. I am worried.

I have this issue as well. but mine is a column structure. I think Sanding it and applying a cot of clear Varnish on the bricks should stop the issue. i tried it on a couple of bricks and so far no issues. My house is a 6 month old baby now.

I used Porotherm and did not encounter this issue. I was concerned with consistency of the blocks manufactured by local manufacturers, hence went with Porotherm even though they were slightly more expensive.

If you are really worried about it, you can consider plastering the external wall. This should stop the blocks from deteriorating further.

Thank you Nagzz and tvsh, appreciate it. Mine is Loadbearing clay blocks hence did not go for Porotherm. The Porotherm which you used is it Loadbearing?
