Hi all,

Our Contractor started digging pits for foundation. In 3 pits after 8' depth getting some water from bottom. Contractor said they will do soling and put some PCC so on so that water will not come into foundation. My worry is about settlement of foundation in future. In one of pit water is about 2'.

Attached are photos of pit. Anybody faced such situation or had experience please share. Your valuable input really appreciated.

Regards
Manju

Hi!

There is nothing to panic about the water in your foundation pits. But it looks like the sub-soil is clay. You have to bring it to the notice of your structural engineer and foundation need to be accordingly designed.

Hi Manju,

Nothing to worry. you need to dig further till the hard layer / min 6 feet. You may need to drain out the water and put the 1 1/2" jolly with dry mix(you need to put min 2 feet height atleast). Don't mix water so it will settle and arrest the water. after few days once its settled go for pillar fixing. I also had the similar problem and did the same way. I had totally 14 pillars and all had water min 4 to 5 feet.

Note: you need get a mono block water motor to remove the water in the pit and clear the surface and put the mix immediately. it will settled and will become very stronger that others. :)

Thanks,

Going for Piling foundation or Mat foundation will be very costly.
