Hi,

There are some options given by my architects for Staircase design
1. Normal Slope
2. Folded plate
3. Stinger beam
4. Stinger beam with Steel structure.
5. Cantilever beamed staircase

On the cost factor, looks like Normal slope to Folded plate will be quite a higher cost considering the centering & barbending & finishing work required for it, likewise for the 3,4 & 5 designs.

On the other hand, I would like to light up the staircase with LED's and a lighting friendly design would be helpful.

I would like to know from members if they had decided on a staircase design which is out of box and also has a cost which does not blow out. Any pics for reference would be appreciated.

My guess is that #1. Normal Slope would be cheapest in terms of getting done. All work will happen during normal concreting, plastering and painting phase.

For metal staircase, you would have to use some sort of wooden steps or plywood with teak laminate. Getting fabrication as per design might be a challenge as you would need a skilled fabricator.

THere are various foot light available in the market, you also get a philips one, I am planning for my external and internal staircase but the problem here is very less electricians know the exact way of installaing. I had tough time to get a junction box to fix it, finally have asked a fabricator to prepare for me.

be perfect, else the user of the steps will feel the inconsistency. Esp, the the thread depth should the max of a person foot length when wearing shoes.

@girishd : yes, the cheapest is normal slope but gives the least aesthetic view as well, but I am trying to figure out if there is a design which can combine the looks of a stinger beam and the cost of a normal slope. My thinking is for half of the staircase make it a normal slope, while the rest is seen as a cantilever beam. So cost of centering barbending and finishing is as good as a normal slope.

@venkyn : My staircase is exactly 6" in height and 3'3" width. As per my architects & engineers this is a good design and even I also feel the same. Let me know if you have other options. On the lightning front are you suggesting the ones which are fitted to the side wall which illuminates the stairs ?

We have one internal staircase from basement to GF done as normal slope one and that was the one with least hassle in terms of getting it done.

I am yet to get 3 other stairs done. The plan was to use fabrication + teak wood steps. I Given that I am not left with much teak wood I had purchased few months back, I am thinking of using plywood with 8-12mm teak laminate for steps. Basically cut the 1.5 inch slabs into 3 slices of 0.5 inch and stick them on top of plywood.

6" for raiser is fine but keep at least 10" for treads.

Did you guys happen to get a steel stair case fabricated ? If yes any contact in bangalore which can do such a concept ? or any website to look up pictures ? Thanks
