Steel bars damaged

Post by Balu »

Dear Friends,

I just completed footings for pillars one week back, Due to rains compound wall collapsed on the steel bars of four pillars and the steel bars got bend.

I had used Indus steel bars and the bar bender straightened the bars and he is telling it is ok no need to worry, my structural engineer told he will inspect the site and if required to add some more steel bar as support. Did any one face similar situation or what is the correct solution.

Thanks in advance for the solutions.

Regards,
Balu.

Balu,

Can't judge whether there is any issue without a picture. Can you post few snaps?

My best guess is that its only the column rods above the footing that have bent. They can always be straightened as long the footing itself is not damaged. Even if something heavy falls on the footing after 24 hours of putting the concrete there should be no issue. Concrete is very versatile in handling compressive force.

I am assuming that footing is done and you have also put SSM foundation or PCC above which plinth beam work is being done.

Seems like there is no real damage. Just confirm with structural engineer.

Yes 4" PCC had been laid as per structural drawing before footing, tomorrow structural engineer will visit the site for inspection.

Engineer suggested to go for retaining wall up to the roof on road side, he told not to worry.
All steel bars are straightened with out any problems. So problem solved.
