My contractor was asking me on whether i want to go with granite or vitrified tiles for staircase stairs(outside one, and also inside duplex stairs) Generally would prefer granite, but need to understand advantage/disadvantage of going with one over the other. Can somebody knowledgable on this topic share the pro's and con's here.

For Outside staircase always go with Granite or Stone, Vitrified tiles will not withstand the load and also sometimes it will break if any heavy items are dropped.

For Internal staircase it depends on Flooring, If you are going full Vitiried then go staircase with vitrified, If it is granite then go with Granite.

Usually for Staircases Only granites are used (Slipperly will be less, Hard compared to Vitrified tiles, Vitried sometimes needs patch work as slabs comes in Standard sizes)

Preference will be given to Granite as per my understanding.

thanks Chida. Stone as in regular hard-stone you meant ? Internal flooring is granite.

granite to stairs can sometimes be slippery so better to use anti skid tiles.Granite is fine if you make threads ontop of the step to prevent slipping. threading normally costs 10rs/running ft.

i have used the flamed granite for external stairs to prevent slippery feel.

What is difference between flamed Vs ordinary granite? which type of granite (name) for staircase.

flamed granite will have a rough finish compared to normal granite and is a little more expensive than polished.The same polished granite will be further given a gas burn treatment to get the rough finish.I have used, river pink granite , for the staircase.Its from andhra and a hard stone.

What is the thickness, and rate you paid for this granite. From where you bought?

the thickness is the same as the flooring polished granite.I bought it through a know reference from jigani.So paid around 90/sqft, else its above 100/sqft.
