Half brick wall or chicken mesh

Hello,

I have internal staircase landing area extended beyond the outer 9 inch brick wall. Normally what sort of wall is good, half inch brick wall or chicken mesh wall.
i understand chicken mesh wall is expensive, my worry is half brick wall would be safe and secure? any economical options?
