I am planning to buy invertor for my house . 1) Please do suggest which is good brand/dealer to buy. I heard some new battery which not to be charged has come .Is that OK??
2) How much Watts maybe required for 6 fans + 5 lights to work + TV ?
3) What would be rough cost ?

I think you would need somewhere in the 1400VA - 1500VA "pure sine wave" inverter for 6 fans + 5 lights + 1TV. Anything above 1000VA needs 2 batteries. Total cost may be around 30k as per this link http://www.inverterprice.in/sukam-1400va-inverter-price

I have been using SuKam 800VA inverter for almost 6 years. Initially bought a SMF (sealed maintenance free) battery that went down after 18 months. Replaced it with Exide invatubular battery - pretty expensive (14-15k is what I remember) but no issues since last 3+ years. The non SMF batteries last long and would require addition of distilled water once in 12-18 months. Better to find a place out of reach of children or have modular/custom box for this system.

SuKam, Luminous, APC are all good brands. Recently Exide has also started making inverters. There are "local" ones that I have seen in many places including offices too. Not sure about their reliability/service.

The other thing to note is higher the Ah of battery, more your backup time will be. A 150Ah battery would last longer than 100Ah. So based on your expected backup time you can choose battery. For own house better go for 150Ah ones.

Hi Sam
There are no more inveters in the market .They are called as UPS (sine wave / online ).Before you decide on the capacity of ups you need look at your requirement first.
In any UPS there is close to 20% loss of power happens every time the battery charges and get discharged automatically .
Going for higher AH with out really necessary for all the fans and lights to run for 4 to 5 hours in case of bescom power failure will end up in 300/ - per month extra power bill.
I experienced it personally in my home.I was using 150 ah battery for last 5 years and recently changed to 100 ah there is clear reduction in my power bill by 300/- per month ( 3 BHK home).

When power goes off you need to think if every light is emergecy light that need to run for long hours or you will be switching off few and ready to live with other lights then you don't need high AH .
My recommendation in UPS xenon (amara raj batteries) , sukam , luminous

Which battery should go for 1 ) invatubular battery 2) SMF (sealed maintenance free) 3 ) non SMF batteries ? .

Does mixy works with UPS as it is not mentioned in the chart of ??

if 4 fans wre working with 3 tubes and suddenly current goes off does UPS with low AH auto cut off or it can get damaged

#1 and #3 are the same. Tubular batteries are the best choice as they have longer life compared to SMF batteries.

Only lighting works with inverters(UPS) in the range of 800-1500VA. My understanding is that Mixy will be on heating circuit and inverter is only on the lighting circuit. So it wont work.

In my experience, if the load is more than inverter VA capacity, inverter would make a beep sound and shut off. BTW VA will determine "how many" appliances can be connected and Ah will determine "how long" they will run on inverter

@tendlu,

800VA inverter + 1 battery system would need at most 2.5ft x 2.5ft and around 1.5ft in depth. The 150Ah battery may be around 1.5ft tall but 100Ah is less than a ft height.

PS: The only issue I faced using Inverter in last few years is that when there is a short circuit in one of the switches, the inverter fuse gets burned. So you need to keep a stock of original fuses for such times. Local electrical shops will not have the correct amperage fuse and will sell you what they have saying "sar this will work better than original fuse". Once I used such local fuse and the entire fuse assembly got burned and had to be replaced.

Thanks for this input Praveen. I will look at this option for my house under construction.

Hi,

It is better to understand how much you really required instead of complete Home lighting which will cost a bomb (Lights+Fans+TV+Computer+ AC/Geyser/Fridge/Mixer)

Usually we need

4 Tublights (40 Watts each)
2 Fans (50 Watts each)
1 LCD TV (90 Watts)
1 Laptop/Desktop (70 - 100 Watts)
1 wifi Modem/Phone Chargers (6 Watts each)

Usually in Bangalore power failure will be around 2 - 4 Hours everyday during crisis.

Calculate total Watts & then divide by Power factor (0.8) to get the UPS/Invertor Capacity in 'VA"
For this we need 750 - 875 VA UPS/Invertor, Go for branded one Sukam/Microtek/Luminous

Invertor/UPS will cost - Rs 4500 ~ 6000
Battery will cost - Rs 10000 ~ 13000 (Exide 150 AH or you can choose 135 AH also)
Installation charges & wiring (add 500 +)

Hi,
I went with Amaron(Both UPS and Battery) couple of months back. UPS is 800 VA and 1 battery with 120 AH.
I couldnt check its full capacity as there was not much power cuts in my area. But maximum i could test was 2 Hrs.
I have it connected with 4 fans and 4 tubelight and 1TV and Laptop. It cost me around 14K.

Regards,
Rakesh

In order to optimize the battery Ratings and to get long duration back up using UPS Line,

1) Do not use Regular Tube lights. They consume more power(Nearly 50W including the Choke). Instead use CFL lights(you can use 4 Nos of
11W-14W CFL's in place of 1 Tube Lights).

2) Use less number of Fans during back up time, they consumer more power and unwanted usage of all fans will drain out your back up capcity.

3) Always use Sine wave Output UPS Systems. Square wave Inverters may reduce the life of your appliances or may not give the best performance.
