Hi
We have a g+2 house. G is 2 bhk and first and second are 3bhk houses. We also have a provision for lift.
I heard from my contractor that we will need 4 6ft pits for
Earthing and each will cost 8 to 10k. I found it hard to believe. I am sure many of you will have similar size houses could you please guide me in this matter? Will we need 4 pits for earthing?? Also can we go for GI wire for earthing instead of copper? What are pros and cons?
Please let me know asap.

Thanks in advance

You need seperate earthing per electrical meter. So you may need 4 pits if you plan to install 4 meters. And earthing is a MUST for safety reasons.

Now coming to the cost: earthing work involves

- digging small pits of around 6ft to 8ft depth and 6" to 9" dia. There are specialized labourers who do this work and charge around Rs 500/pit
- You will need copper plate, GI pipes, copper bolt/nuts and copper wire till the meter panel board.
- You need salt, charcoal , sand/mud to fillup the pit in layers
- Electrical labour to do this

You may need to spend around 3-4 k / earthing if you handle yourself.

one earthing should not be costing more than 3k. Also, I dont think that you need to have 6ft pit, 4ft should be fine. But, it's important to have earthing for each incoming unit.
