hello everyone,

I have constructed metal frame , now choosing wooden/laminate/beach/rubber/solid wood is giving sleepless nights for me.

I never thought the cost will be so high for floating stairs , I want to know whats the best option to use rubber wood which is 180/- sq ft for 25 mm thickness
we have 32 steps of ~1 ft * 3 ft length and two landings of 2 ft * 8 ft long. carpenter is estimating 30 rubber sheets each costing ~5000/- its a real bomb for me.


Do you have any experience of having wooden stairs with no thread like cake you need to wrap wood on all the four sides.??

Hi,
Are you looking for wrapping the entire stair with wood? that's going to cost you very high.Why don't you look at using wood only on thread top and give a need ducco or Mrf finish to the MS part.
Ms can be detailed out neatly only if the surface area of box sections are wider .Other than rubber wood all the other wood options are very expensive .

Thanks for your quick reply.

Initially I thought of 25 mm rubber wood on the top and 12/15 mm rubber wood at the bottom and sides to wrap the stairs. And PU coat the entire to get natural wood finish.
Gap between the thread to have 4 inches, is that child friendly. though each step would overlap each other by nosing ( 1 inch) . But with the cost and not so child friendly.
I'm thinking of having thread also that going to cost less and less scary and bottom put veneer .

I understand the duco paint, I did not get the other MR finishes ?
