Urgent!! Doubt in aggregate size for columns

Hi all,
Please let me know whether aggregate size would impact the concrete and how?? What if 12mm aggregate is used in concrete for columns? What difference would it make if we use 20mm?? forget about the cost of aggregate, please let me know the strength difference between the two.

Hi ,
You should use 20mm. aggregate size is important for strength .It is based on the bonding strength required between steel cement and sand.Smaller the aggregate more the water consumption.
High strength mixtures generally need to have a low water-contentious material ratio.

Hi!
Columns should not be concreted only with 12mm aggregates. But shall be mixed with 20mm aggregates in certain proportion.
In simple words, concrete mix designs were carried out by engineers world over, with 10mm, 12mm, 16mm and 20mm size aggregates. The final results proved that the concrete attained maximum compressive strength when 20mm to 10mm graded aggregates were used.
Well, in RMC, because of the workability requirement(concrete should flow in pipes), the aggregates are sieved, graded and admixtures are added to achieve same strength.
