I went to Sapna book house and landmark book store (in forum mall) to look for a layman's manual for home construction. I was very disappointed to find that there were no such books - the only book I found was in Sapna and the author's name was some narayan tantri or something like that. That was a very poor quality book and I didn't buy it. I searched online for any such book and didn't fine any. Amazon has a ton of such books but they are specifically for US..
I really wanted to get some source of information before I start constructing my house - there are so many things which we (non-architects and non-civil engineers) don't know much about like details about flooring/wood/exteriors/electrical/plumbing/lighting options it is frustrating that we have to gather bits and pieces of information from here and there. I really wish some good architect writes a book titled 'Home construction for dummies' which will have all information one needs to build a house. Just imagine talking to the architects and contractors with full knowledge of exactly what to expect from them and at what price !

you will not be able to get the pricing information from books (first the prices are constantly changing, secondly it varies with location and etc.).

But I have gathered a lot of information from different websites and put it together in the form of a book. Only problem is that the compilation is fairly large. if the admins can post it for me, I am willing to share it. (It is not exactly a book as you would find a published book - but I have done my best to try and put related pieces of information together).

please let me know and I can send it to the right person for posting. the file size is 7.4MB.

I have tried that, but size is too large and won't upload. I have not received any other suggestions from admin or otherwise.
