Hello,

SBC meant for Safe Bearing Capacity, Different soils have different SBC's.
Soils may be classified as Cohesive and Non-Cohesive soils of which non-cohesive soils have greater SBC than cohesive soils.
The thing is normally people take/assume SBC as 15-17, for it structurally analysed by --- LOAD/SBC , example of taking your building load for individual columns
may come around 50-70tonnes. and thus my area comes around 4.11sqm.
Where in to for one of my client in Bangalore, I strictly suggested to go for SBC check then we got an SBC of 27 and my area for the same loading came to 2.6sqm. therby we saved 1.52sqm. of concrete and also there was save in steel qty.
Finally, If we don't get our building/structure properly annalysed we may lead our building/structure to more uneconomical design wherin the excess steel or concrete will just take rest in the structure.
