Hello All,
Help needed in deciding between two vendors for uPVC windows.
I got quotes from Torfenster (not Torwin) and Lingel. Both claim high quality and service, comparable to Fenesta. For about 550 sft total windows area, I got final quotes (after discounts) of Rs. 650 (from Torfenster) and Rs. 850 (from Lingel).
Differences seem to be:
1. Torfenster imports profiles from Europe (vendor not known; earlier it used to be Kommerling), while Lingel imports from Lingel Germany
2. Torfenster brands its hardware as TSIL, sourced from unknown, while Lingel imports from Lingel Germany
3. Torfenster fabricates in a factory on Magadi Road, Bangalore, while Lingel fabricates and ships from Bhiwandi, Rajastan
4. Torfenster provides sliding mosquito meshes for casement windows, while Lingel provides roller meshes for casement windows
5. Torfenster outsources installation and service while Lingel does it by their employees
General Spec of a sliding window (some are casement windows too):
a. half-while profile with 2.2 to 2.5 mm wall thickness
b. 5mm clear glass
c. sliding shutters with soft-touch locks
d. three track - two for sliding windows and one for fabric mosquito mesh (not Stainless steel)
Any help with deciding will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sateesh

Some month back i also got the quotes from them i did not go for UPVC due to high cost.
I prefer Lingel compared to Tornfester for below reasons.
1. Quality & movements were superior compared to Tornfester.
2. Lingel hardwares are imported from germany & gives 10years warranty on hardwares whereas other gives 2 years.

@ sateeshpnv; are you considering LG Heusys, Veka and Rihau? I am also evaluating UPVC and let us exchange notes.
@santro; Did you move back to teak wood or Honne? Did it save you anything if you include the hardware

I went for Austrlian honne because of following reasons:
1. Australian honne frame & shutters are cheaper than UPVC
2. Wood window appearance is elegance whereas grill will be hindrance in UPVC.
3. In later years, we can change the color of polish to our choice/matching to new paint in house.
3. In Wood we will get 90 deg opening & installation of mosquito mesh is easy, whereas in Casement type UPVC, installation & operation of mosquito mesh is difficult.
4. Around 2-3 years back UPVC prices were cheaper & its a value for money. Last year LG, Lingel were quoting Rs400-500/sq ft but now its Rs 750-900/sq ft this hike is not justified considering the Inflation.
I asked Sales persons to justify for this steep hike in price, they couldn't answer
.

@rkrishna - LG & Rehaus - I didn't like the quality. Veka - I haven't pursued. There are way too many uPVC vendors.
I have placed the order with Lingel. They fabricate in Rajasthan, so delivery takes about 30 days.

Rs. 780 including mosquito mesh for all windows - half toughened glass and half plain glass (difference is 20 rs. per sft). All sliding doors. Total sft >500. Three windows have roller mosquito mesh (27 sft) and all the rest have sliding mesh.
Torfenster qoute was about 200 less than Lingel's, but no roller mosquito mesh.
vendor - all uPVC window vendors suck. I guess my main problem with them is lack of transparency. With wooden - I know or can know the cost of base materials and labor charges. So, it's easy to analyze any quote. That's not the case with uPVC.
We need to be super careful with quality of windows on delivery and finish and packing the gaps properly during installation.

Yes i too agree about the quality, as there as different qualities like low, medium and high in UPVC items, how the end users can differentiate what they bought is what is delivered? Does anyone tried to figure this out?

Hi Sateeshpnv,
Does Rs. 780 psft also include taxes, installation etc? I got a quote for Torwin and that person is quoting Rs, 750 psft! Could you please let me know the contact person for Lingel and Torfenster?
Best Regards
