Hello all,
i just wanted guidance from the guys out there
we had just finished filling the concrete for the column footing and damn it rained hard..
the last column fill is halfway through and it started raining and stopped filling process and lot of water collected in that pit as rain drain water leaked in to the pit as it was just next to the rain water drain (charandi water). so what shall i do now to set right the things.
so jus wanted to knw from the professionals if it is okay or do i need to redo the process again
all other pits concrete finished just an hour before it rained, what will be the fate of those footings ?, my neighbor suggested to put another one or two ft of more concrete for those pits tomorrow itself , is it necessary to do that ?? just confused ,please help me with your valuable inputs
and he also suggested to redo the entire thing for the last pit, which was under process when it started raining and rain water leaked and filled the entire pit.
im so worried about the strength n the rite process to b done after this mess
plz guide me asap !!!

Rain 4-5 hrs after concrete it is good but before that you need to take expert opinion. Since all your RCC work happened within 1-2 hrs . it is worrisome situation. Take contractor opinion also, he would have faced similar situation else where earlier.
I had similar problem during footing of last column in my case, mild rain after 3hrs. i could see that sponginess in footing on top layer. He applied and spread cement over that and he said it is ok. Even i showed to my structural engineer also.

Hi,
You need to inspect the footings after water is drained .Generally for footings the concrete doesn't wash away since its inside the pit.If it rains immediately you should use covers to take care of footing for 3-4 hours after that its all good to rain. The last water filled footing might need to be redone if the concrete is completely drained out .Post some pictures in forum so that members can suggest you better ways.

Hello Praveen and sahu ,
Thanks for the early feed back,
my maesthri and contractor said same thing as praveen told and they said they will inspect the last pit and take suitable action.
In fact I told the writer and maesthri to cover the last two pits as soon as rain started they said it is not possible to cover as pillar is there and it is of no use.
I am worried now also about the structural strength all other pillars? is it advisable to put again about 1 or 2 ft of concrete ?? please let me know your expert advice on this ,will this have to do on my extra spending as i am with material contract or the builder will take care of it ,and as such no terms in the agreement regarding such situation. I will try to post few pics today itself.
Thanks again for the feedback and opinions.

dear sir,
your self need not redone entire footing, as this concrete should be treated laying under water concrete. As we have seen most of the concrete with manual concrete uses more water than technical requirement at site for the various reasons . the cement content to be increased to gain the desired strength.
In your case the following defects might occur in your concrete.
As water enter before the final setting time is happened. The finer particles ( ie cement content may not distributed uniformly. the strength of concrete may be differ Low to high.
How to finout the above defects.
the following procedure should be followed with technical guidance of qualified engineer.
Kindly chip top 15 mm this concrete ( now it will be fresh do it)
grout the concrete with non shirk grout ( this cost will be based on porosity) . my feel is this will not be much a
and test it for it strength( it can be done free of cost at site).
this will have full faith on your product. futher you need any help you can contact as for help...8892365939

Hello,
Engineer (who is also builder to me) visited the site checked all pillars concrete and said ok and not to worry at all. The last pillar ,which was halfway through when it started raining is redone from the beginning and it took all most half a day,as it is done manually no mixing equipment and no gang men involved.sorry could not post pics as promised.
Thanks for the info, praveen and sahu.
