What is the minimum distance required between a sump tank wall to outer/compound wall & to column footing?
Also what would be the issue if the sump tank wall is close to outer/compound wall or to a column footing?

I don't know about distance but my civil engineer asked me to have the bottom of the sump to at least a bit above the top of the nearby footings. He said sump bottom must not be at a level below the nearby footing tops.

would it be possible to qualify what "at least a bit above the top of the nearby footing" would be in terms of inches?

My sump is also close to compound walls and a pillar. The pillar supports canopy @10'. I was told by my engineer to leave 3' gap between the sump wall and the column footing. we have left about 2'9" from the compound wall. A structural engineer would be the right person to answer this, I think...

As per my structural engineer its not necesary to leave any gap between the footing and the sump. He also says the sump can go deeper than the footing also as long as it doesnt overlap the footing in anyway. I have heard people say it shouldnt go below the footing.. is there any particular reason for it?

The reason my engineer gave was that footings takes all the load of the building and pass it onto nearby earth. If sump is next to the footing then sump will get the load transferred.

We would be starting with sump construction for our Stilt + 2 floor house. Any comments on pros and cons of constructing sump with blocks/bricks as compared to reinforced concrete wall sump.

RCC is always best as it saves lot of space and u dont have to worry about nearby columns and footings if you use RCC sump (DisADV :its costly)but the other cheap alternative is wire cut red bricks. Its better not to use cement blocks because they are never cured properly and chances of failure are high.
This day people prefer cement blocks as its quick to construct and saves labor.
