EWC (aka commode) placement in a bathroom

This is probably a naive question, but still wanted to ask :-)

Can a Wall Mounted (non-concealed) EWC (commode) in a bathroom be mounted in a partition (4.5") wall? If yes, what are the pros and cons of mounting it in an outside wall (9") vs partition (4.5") wall?

by default Wall mount will require 9" wall , if you need the same for a 4.5" wall - ask plumber/mastri to extend the 4.5" wall and make it to 9" only for the portion which commode will require - that will not be evidently visible. ( I guess it will be for 2ft width and 3ft height )

PS: dont mount it on 4.5" wall only - it will not bear the load.

In my case, they said they will build a "ledge wall", which will contain the concealed flush tank with the chair bracket, and the EwC will be fitted to the chair bracket. The ledge wall will protrude around 4-5 inches outside my 4.5" partition wall.

Hi tendlu
If you have no other option you can load EWC on to 4.5" wall but the wall should have rcc bands at every 2' ht or in specific position you want to fix the commode .
The issue you will face in case of 4.5" wall not because of width but being an internal wall how do you run the soil pipe to duct or external. The pvc bend connection behind the EWC needs min 6" thk to conceal it .Another issue is to connect the flush tank (concealed need 4.5" extra ledge) so finally you end up with 9" thk.

Thanks a lot guys for all the input.

I did speak to the engineer and he just said what you guys have stated -- build a 4.5" thick niche that is 2'x3' and then mount the EWC on it. BTW, it is not for a concealed flush tank though -- only wall mounted EWC.
