PCC Mixing Method

My contractor is not mixing the concrete before applying the footing bed PCC. What he is doing is to first dump 40 mm JALLI and then adding mixture of sand and cement on top and mixing it all inside the pit. Is this correct?

When i questioned him, he said that this is the normal process for small projects and hiring a mixer becomes very costly. My project has 14 pillars.

I see 2 problems with this. Soil in the pit gets mixed into the PCC. There is no way to check 1:4:8 ratio of cement, sand and JALLI.

That process is not acceptable . It wont serve the purpose . You have to insist him to Mix it properly . If it is machine mix it will be Good . But dont forgot that is very important part of the Building . PCC is going to be base course for our building . So try to have well mixed and maintain a minimum of 150 mm thick . I personally suggest not allow him as he like.

Over here (Mysore), I have seen that they mix jalli, sand, cement, water and then pour the concrete. So mixing after pouring seems definitely wrong.

So many small contractors does like that only. Because many people people don't know about the methodology and the importance of the activities .
