I happen to hear that there should be at least 4 feet away the harvesting pit from the borwell casing so that mud along the casing will collapse and bore will close. Is this true?

Harvest pit->>>>>4ft->>>> Casing............ Is this right approch ? Is it can be around 2 feet.

Is this true that pit should be around 3 to 4 feet away from casing?

Don't ever dig a pit around the bore well. It would safer to have a pit as far as possible from the borewell

Hello,

My builder has done RWH pit around 6 to 8 ft away from the bore well casing. when we told about the well around the bore well ,he did not agree saying it is not advisable and not at all recommended, with out telling any proper reason.

I had reached out to rainwaterclub.org during my constructions. According to them, there is no recommended distance. It could be close to the borewell.
Here are the complete list of Qs that I had posted to them and their answers. They have some experts in the field, and I think the responses are reliable. Hope this helps.

Dear Sir, I am planning to create a recharge pit in my house. I have a few questions related to this:
1. Most articles I researched on the web indicate the recharge pit should be dug around the borewell casing. However, this is not a possibility for me since the borewell is close to the house building. So, I plan to dig the pit near the borewell. Is this ok? If yes, is there any minimum distance to be maintained between the borewell and the pit.

2. Your article in the Hindu suggests putting rings with perforation to allow water seepage through side walls. However all rings I have come across in the market are concrete rings without perforations. Is that ok?

3. Do I need to build in some filtering into the pit (sand/boulders/jelly). Or will just a filter like popup filter suffice before water reaches the pit.

The responses:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Close to the borewell is ok. No prescribed distance
2. All rings have 3/4 holes on the sides. These are referred to as perforations
3. Pop up filter is ok - if the water is from the rooftop

Do ensure that the well is at least 20ft deep and is not filled up with aggregates
