Hi,
I am planning construction. And recently one of my friend got two brick quotes. One was called wire-cut which has good finishing which cost 6 Rs. The finishing is good, it is the wire cut brick for which plastering is also required(I was told that there are wire cut bricks for which plastering is not required on the exterior site and it is good to look, but little expensive). And the other brick was the table mould normal bricks with the stamp of the maker, The wire cut is stronger/good finish and he mentioned mixed with kerosene instead of water for making. Table mould with name which people in Malur are popular is called ALA. This was around Rs 4.80. Enquired at quite a few locations in Malur and the price was similiar for both of them give/take 30 paise.
My contractor said that the wire cut bricks might be strong/good to look at, but are not convenient, as they have a smoother finish and the cement plastering does not easily stick onto it. Though i agree to his logic, i somehow liked the wire cut bricks. Does any one have any inputs for the same. Have anyone used this and are any one aware of these bricks?
Thanks

I think you are getting good price for both bricks
Contractors are usually against using wire brick as it is lot of work for them and require skill workmanship. They have to ensure for each row of brick's horizontal and vertical space (mortar) should be exactly same, otherwise exposed brick wall will look ugly. This is the actual reason your contractor is not supporting your decision and has nothing to do with cement plastering not sticking. Wirecut brick has a grove cutting to take care of cementing plastering

i don't have the contact numbers sicne i went for CSEB, as per my architect good bricks come from Kolar side, My engineer showed bricks costing 6rs (you can see wavvy cuts on side for better plaster adherence). and seems like we need to order before, also the quality may differ from load to load

even in clay bricks ther r two types 1 is chamber bricks which we see in factories having furnace this 1 is good and other is i dont know the name but in empty land they have a big block like thing n they cut bricks from that ......which is very poor in quality ....ya in malur side we can both kind of bricks
most of the contractors give suggestion which is benifical for them ....always have opinion from eng or archtects or people who have knowlegede abt it ....plastering is easy on wire cut bricks

@Kraghum: Thanks for an info. Is the CSEB available in Blr..Is there a way to get some details about that product.
@Mahesh: You are right, the furnace burnt ones I have seen in Malur side but not sure about empty land, it could be the traditional hay burnt ones which was older technique and we used to buy those bricks when my dad was constructing the house some 30 years back....Regarding the contractors suggestions, I do my due digilence in consultation with elderly people who constructed house and then take collective decision...most of the time it works well and gives good learning experience.
