I am planning to do grill work for the stairs and for other elevation features. I contacted these people for the prices and they are saying for MS pipes (horizontal) it would be 110 per sft and for making the grill work using solid rods it would cost Rs.170 per sft. Please let me know are these rates reasonable? Also is it the RFT or SFT measurement i should use to pay for the grill work? How can i ensure that the gauge of the steel is used is correct??

RFT is primmarily used for steel railings. For the MS, SFT is the metric.

Hi yogi
Easy way is to ask the vendor expected weight per sft for 170/- in case you are clear about gauge. No Ms vendor talks about weight in Bangalore (no idea why).
Best way is to deal per kG,though they charge more you will be sure about quality .

Hi, the fabricator has quoted below rates:
Safety grills - 10mm horizontal round solid rods with 1/2 inch solid vertical plates - Rs.85 per KG.
Collapsable gate - Rs.330 per sqft.
Main gate (Arch shaped) - Rs.300 per sqft - made using MS/CR flat and round pipes.
Please let me know are these rates reasonable as I think he is quoting high...

Hi Yogi,
I have also given the order for my gate to be done in Hebbagodi. The cost depends on the gauge of the materials used and the design. (e.g. 1.6mm / 2mm etc for pipes)
The prices range from Rs.270 to Rs.350 depending on designs.
For Rs.300 you should get good quality of materials being used, and I think it is reasonable.
