Hi

If i leave 8 feet of space throughout on one side ( 30*8 feet), is it sufficient for SUV/Volvo model cars with fully opening the both the doors as i know Volvo width is 5.8 feet ?

Regards
Sam

Sam, Its always better to leave 2 feet on either side (if you have an option to do so) of car parking to get out of the car and while washing. Otherwise u have always ask your family to get out of the car before you park .

like hvc said, leave a little extra room. But you can check up the dimension of the specific cars. Here is what I found for a Volvo suv
Width: 74.7 in.
Height: 70.2 in.
Length: 189.3 in.
Ground clearance: 8.6 in.
Front track: 64.3 in.
Rear track: 63.9 in.
Wheel base: 112.6 in.

For SUV type of vehicles you probably need to worry about the height
also. Check where your beam bottom ends and the likely height of the
car parking floor.

I presume that the 8 feet width will be lined up with few or rather stretch of pots towards days to come. In this context, the 8 feet will look cramped. WIthout a pot too, all passengers will disembark at the gates & then walk in, which otherwise could have been possible midway in the portico or whatever !!

You Must also consider the Width of the Road where your plot is located and the Turning radius
of the vehicle apart from the width of the Vehicle to conclude the parking Entrance/space. if
the road width is 30 Ft or lesser, you need to give wide entrance preferably with Sliding gate
rather than conventional gate.

Thanks. I got the points 8 feet is enough but would be cramped/and road turning with radium should be taken as well . Anybody else also please do share there inputs. I am already leaving 9 feet with 1 feet wall thickness (8 feet gap internal+compound 4" + interior 9") as felt that is maximum which i can leave considering the size of of my plot else room size would be less .

Sam, you need to measure the width of the car with both sides door open (from one door to the opposite door) then you can leave space accordingly. I think 9ft will be sufficient for you.

I have a ford figo, I have taken tape measurements. I think width less than 10ft is not good. Hard to open doors properly (if there are walls on both sides). Also reversing etc is difficult too. Apparently the standard car park size is 8.2x16.4 ft (2.5m x 5m).

Folks don't just focus on the car you have today. Cars have a lower life span than a house, so what happens when you get a new car. Make the parking area large enough for most cars. I do understand it is not possible to leave a lot of space, but be careful for what happens with the new car for yourself (or if you do rent it out and the renter has a bigger car).
