Carpet flooring is nice for colder climates. It could get very warm under your feet in the summers. Besides, the dust collection in carpets would make it unhealthy. Also, if it is permanently fixed, no matter how well you vacuum, you will not be able to remove all dust. If it is removable, then perhaps you could do a good job of airing it out in the sun and then dusting and vacuuming - to get it better.
Another disadvantage is the problem of spills and stains.
All these are from my experience with carpeted floors for over 10 years in my house. I switched to hardwood as soon as I could afford to change them.

Since Bangalore is a warm place complete carpetting is not recommended. However, many people do get partial carpeting around the bed, and in some other rooms like study room and all done to give it a nice ambience. Carpet tile when used in combination with wooden flooring give a very posh look.
Regarding the maintenence, carpet tile are mostly PP or nylon which is stain proof, fire resistant and does not lose its shape and will not smell bad as these are mostly moisture proof too. Infact the whole purpose of using carpet tiles is too overcome the demerits of traditional woolen carpets.
Regarding the cost, these start from Rs 100+ including installation though for residential usage the cost might be about 20% higher.
