During Roof concrete I have seen some construction sites spreading plastic cover & natural Mat over centring sheet, before placing iron rods. What is the advantage using this mat?

People these days use sheet centring plates. These plates provides a very smooth finish to the concrete slab. At the time of plastering, it is very difficult to plaster smooth surfaces, for which the contractor sometimes charge you additionally to chip the slab to enable plastering. To avoid this, the mats when put above the centring plates, provides a coarse finish to teh slab.

Also, there are places where some have not plastered the roof at the outside (balconies), as the mats provide a unique finish, which appeals to some people.

Hi Pradeep,
You can experiment with various textures sheets while concreting. You can Tyre, bamboo, mangalore tiles or some other shapes to give interesting textures to the slab bottoms. But the contractor should be careful that shapes doesn't move out.Regular mats are used for rough texture to hold the plastering.

It seems they are charging 4 Rs Material + Labour.

They paint the surface of the metal sheet with Oil, so that the concrete does not settle on to the metal sheets. The same is not applicable for the wooden surfaces, hence there are no alternatives.

The second alternative is that you could go for the "mud centring", this actually costs more & is indeed a very perfect centring too. You could use this option, provided you have a sprawling space all around you.

Probably, if the metal sheet is manufactured with similar to the grooves of the mat ingrained on the surface where it will come in contact with laying concrete then it will help in plastering for all areas instead of ceiling area alone.

Dear m3_07

Is the rate 2.75 is inclusive of labour +material (mat) or just for material (mat)

Why we cannot go for wooden centering? . Is it costly or not available nowdays as all moved to steel ones?

Apart from plastering advantage any other advantage as you already mentioned why it is being used?

I have seen a plastic cover as well lied below the Mat ,what is its purpsose?
