Possible Problems with concrete...

Post by ngupta »

1) There are many kind of cracks like problems with concrete. Are they fixable ?

http://wi-resurfacing.com/concreteproblems.htm

(2)
I found RMC, though they say they mix as per standard, but at site while pumping,
labor has practise to put more water from truck (may be to ease pumping).
As such there is no technical control what-so-ever and
it just depends on labour which comes with RMC.

It appears that cause something called bleeding.

How to manage it ?

(3) Alternative steels rods of slab (say 6") towards beams are raised like "z" (say by 4").
Now if some of it is done 5" instead of 4", then they appear on surface.
Not exactly, but truff like impression can be easily seen. And some fine cracks appears
around them ?

How serious is this ? Is it fixable ?

Hi Nalin,
There are various kind of concrete problems, for a residential scale usually we face is with slabs.
1. Honey comb - If the vibrator is not applied properly during concrete pouring .
2. Steel expose - If the slab thickness is not maintained uniformly or the centering is not in level
3. Hair line cracks - If the concrete is not consolidated properly after the casting (with in one or two hours of completion of casting)
4. Joint cracks - By any chance the casting is done in phases, the joint should be taken care.

All these problems are very much fixable, there is some thing called concrete jet spray pump, it injects concrete (with out metal)in to the finest gaps and makes it monolithic .
In any case precaution is better than curing....................
