Foundation stones or red brickt (6 Rs One) for wall

Post by sam_m400 »

Hi

I was thinking of having the front wall with Foundation stone cut long instead of red bricks which we regularly use. I have seen couple houses constructed like that. This is only for the front wall facing the door as it give good look for the house. Can you anybody share there experience on cost impact and advantages/disadvantages of going for that?

Regards
Sam

when you say foundation stones - are you talking about sadarahalli granite? It will look good - many houses we have seen are done this way and it looks great. Only thing is try to pick stones that are not too rough (dressed stones are better at least in my opinion), because they will not accumulate dust and look dingy later. And there is an option of just using dressed granite tiles that can be cut to your desired width and laid over the wall (as cladding).

I was also planning for sadarahalli wall cladding for one of the exterior wall ( like a show wall ). But my contractor says that, over a period of time, water might seep into the wall. This , to some extend , can be prevented with very high quality (labour) pointing , between the stones, done. But rarely, the quality of work is that great and thus the wall will have seepage problem . Is that true?

You can go for a composite wall, where you have single sadarahalli stone on the outside and a brick wall on the inside.
