(burma,malaysian,african-ghana, columbian) which is the better one...interms of durability
is it better to polish them or paint them for longer life....

Re: Teak-varieties
Here is the ranking of varieties of wood (as I know it).
Burma
Indian (nagpur)
Malaysian
African ghana
Don't know about colombian (perhaps it is similar to indian - if it is colombo (srilanka) and not colombia south america).
In my opinion, if you have spent so much for teak, it is best to polish it and show off it's natural beauty. But be aware, exposure to elements (sun, rain etc) will probably not leave it so beautiful for long. But then paint would probably also fade/peel with exposure to elements.

Re: Teak-varieties
I don't know about other country woods. but most people use honne or sal for frames and doors (other than main door and puja door). I have been told that it is very good and will last as long as teak.
But we did not use any of these. We used UPVC for window frames and shutters (cost wise it came out more expensive than wood but if you went with a white profile for these windows, it may be comparable with wood). And for interior doors and frames we used engineered wood. I have seen good reviews of that as well. It turned out to look very nice, but only time will tell if what I read is really true. Cost wise, it is comparable to honne and sal.

Blrsiteseeker, does white UPVC frames and windows really work out the same price as honne/ sal? What brand of UPVC will that be? The advantage of UPVC would be that it is maintenance free with no painting required.
