I am looking at options to make a good exterior elevation for my proposed house contruction in Bangalore.

"Exposed brickwork in first class wirecut bricks with 15mm recessed pointing and lime mortar grout 12mm recessed "
considering amount of rain we get in Bangalore, will it be leakage/crack prone to go for exposed brick structure?
What do i need to consider to build it right?

or should I got for 8mm thick granite/slate cladding instead?

Please suggest/comment.

I would suggest you can go for good quality terracotta facade tiles that are availalbe in the market, instead of using wire cut bricks. Reason being the quality of labor does not do justice to wire cut bricks nowadays, and the facade tiles after plastering willnot result in moisture absorption and give an aesthetic and earthy appearance at the same time.

I have seen quite a few houses that have cladding that gives the same look as exposed bricks. When inquired with a house owner, he mentioned that it costed him about 7 Rs a tile. Check it out, it may be cheaper and may not have the same wear and tear issues you mentioned.

If you are looking for a exposed red brick finish for the exteriors, I suggest to check out weiner berger. It is an Austrian company which has a manufacturing facility near Bangalore as well. I was looking for a ventilated facade system for my new house and visited their showroom recently..but I backed out since it turned out to be expensive.

tvsh - I used clay bricks for cladding, but they were not as cheap as 7rs/tile. By the way, these tiles were small (3"x9" or so) and each cost me rs. 12 or so.

cotractor suggested wire cut bricks from Mangalore/Kerala for exposed part of the exterior walls. Vendor: Modern Tiles.
any feedback on quality and price is welcome.
