Flooring concerns

Can somebody give me some light in my following concerns ?
* Is 75 Rs ( per sft) vitrified tiles or similar priced granite better for flooring ?
* At this rate, will we get reasonable quality granite ?
* Is light or dark colored flooring better ? I got two opinions on this that light colored ones give better lighting and will give spacious looks. But its difficult to maintain ( get dirty very easy and dirt will be prominent). Darker/Medium shades give congested/dull look but its easy to maintain . Even if you skip to mop for a day , its ok . Your thoughts please...

I bought granite for my new house last week and am in the process of buying vitrified tiles. Granite is for the living/dining/kitchen and vitrified for bedrooms. Granite I bought is light colored and cost me Rs.240 per sq ft. I am going to buy vitrified tiles in the range of Rs.70 per sqft. Granite and vitrified tiles are entirely different materials and it is not correct to compare. You do get Granite for Rs.75 per sqft, but that will be of sub-standard quality in my opinion. Good quality gang-saw cut granite (which comes in 10ft by 6ft size slabs) starts at around Rs.150 per sqft and the price goes up depending upon the quality (uniformity in the pattern formation, brightness, uniqueness of the type of granite etc).
My suggestion is this - for budget below Rs.100 per sqft, vitrified tiles is the better option as you get good quality tiles in that range whereas, whereas good quality granite costs upward of Rs.150 per sqft.
(You get granite in two varieties - cutter size and gang saw size. Gang saw size is expensive because the polish is done by a machine and generally it is said that the cutter size stones will have around 25% less polish compared to the gang-saw cut stones.)

Hindustan Marbles and Granites (HMG) on Lalbagh road has a very good collection of granite slabs. But this store sells only the very expensive ones and the rates are much higher than other stores. Bannerghatta road (near Dairy circle) has a number of stores. Also a lot of people go to Jigani industrial area where there are hundreds of Granite factories who sell granite at their premises.

I checked out many stores and even some factories and finally bought in a store called mci granite palace at Bannerghatta road. My advice is that you will need to visit as many stores as possible till you find the granite of your liking.

Hi Jackalbda, vitrified tiles are preferred more over granite and even marble tiles today because of their ability to keep off stains and also are less porous. Granite is more expensive and requires more maintenance. As for the color, you can go for a color that is not too dark and not too light. But if you do have to make a choice, a lighter color would be more appropriate and you don't have to worry about it getting dirty. You have to though make sure you maintain it properly by cleaning it periodically.
